The East End Village development in Newcastle is a dynamic urban renewal project designed to enhance public spaces with innovative and functional outdoor furniture. In collaboration with Street+Garden, Platinum Timber & Ply supplied high-quality, custom timber for a series of modular seating solutions that seamlessly integrate with the surrounding landscape. This partnership played a key role in bringing the designers’ vision to life, ensuring that the furniture not only complemented the area’s natural elements but also met the highest standards of durability and sustainability. 

The East End Village development in Newcastle is a vibrant urban renewal project designed to enhance community spaces through innovative and functional outdoor furniture. As part of this initiative, Platinum Timber & Ply (PTP) collaborated with Street+Garden to provide high-quality timber materials for a custom range of modular seating solutions that seamlessly integrate with the surrounding environment. 

The Vision: Artistry and Foliage-Inspired Furniture 

Street+Garden was commissioned by the City of Newcastle to develop a seating solution that would blend harmoniously with the area’s natural landscape. Drawing inspiration from the iconic fig trees in the region, the designers created a geometric, laser-cut pattern that symbolised the intertwining branches and leaves of these trees. The seating arrangements were designed to weave naturally through the landscape, enhancing the organic aesthetic of the East End Village. 

PTP Supplying Custom Timber Solutions 

Platinum Timber & Ply played a crucial role in bringing this vision to life by supplying the custom-selected and finished wood planks used for the benches, backed benches and custom curved benches.
